River View

Across the street from my home is a tranquil river. If you stand at the end of my driveway, lean left 90 degrees and look between two trees, you can see it. Sort of a river view, I guess!

In the mornings I love to walk with our dog, Tucker, stealing away to the river before the house rises. Canadian geese reside all along the river’s shore. In fall, you can watch local high school crew teams steadily race the length of the river out to the bay. In summer, my children snapper fish and catch crabs.

In winter, it is a solitary place. I love looking at the boats and their nonactivity. In their berths, they await the sailing party to begin.

The river is still, except for these two swans that crisscross each other’s paths as they swim towards me.

Is it my imagination or do you see a heart shape in their wake?

How appropriate for Valentine's Day! They must know true love! Enjoy the day with your loved ones! These two certainly are!

I love early morning walks before the rest of the world is awake. And to be by the river would be wonderful.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and for leaving your sweet comments. We had a fantastic time at the beach. My little mother enjoyed every minute of her birthday weekend away. We made many happy memories!

What a beautiful place! I'm always drawn to the water. It must be a lovely walk. We have a pond in the center of town that I like to walk my dog Maxie around. Of course, there are no boats or crew teams, but there is a lovely fountain and lots of geese.

Hi Tara,

I love swans and yes it does look like a heart in their wake! How lovely to have a river so close to your home. We used to live on LI too, on the north shore near the sound.

p.s. kale can be served as a side dish.

That is just too too sweet. I think the wakes that follow the ducks and geese in the water are fascinating. You can just imagine how fast their little feet are paddling under water. ~ Lynn

Oh Tara, what a lovely setting! the swans instantly reminded me of the Yeats poem, "The Wild Swans at Coole." Do you know it?

"Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold,
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old..."

Have a wonderful Valentine's day!
