I'm Back from a Trip!

I've been on a blogging siesta...what can I say? We have been hit with more snow this past week! About ten inches! Yikes! What a winter!

Before the snow we traveled into Manhattan to visit my college son and make sure the starving artist wasn't starving! Truly, New York City has a pulse that is unidentifiable. You literally feel it beneath your feet as you walk on the street. If you have ever been, you know what I mean. My son loves it! We decided to make use of our time by touring parts of the city. We took a tour of Rockerfeller Center and the NBC studios. You can get a ticket for both tours for $24.95 and it is well worth it! Here is one view of Rockerfeller Center. The flags surrounding the center represent countries from aroundthe world. The flags are in alphabetical order!

The famous Rockerfeller skating rink. Beloveds can rent the rink for $80.00 for 15 minutes so one can ask the other to marry them. Everyone gets off the ice, the man gets down on one knee and the couple, to much applause from spectators, skates around the rink. This occurred while we were there and, oddly, we knew the young couple!

The Rockerfellers incorporated many beautiful pieces of outer building artwork on the Art Deco buildings that surround the center. Originally, they were trying to entice the United Nations to be here instead of its current location on the water nearby.

Atlas...

Saint Patrick's Cathedral, the famous Fifth Avenue church, through the view of Atlas...

The only picture I could get inside the studio...(no cameras allowed!) But visitors are able to visit the Saturday Night Live studio and to when they asked for a volunteer to sit in Brian Williams and try to read the news teleprompter, the English major in me was WAY out of control and raised her hand and waved wildly. My kids wanted to die, but I was chosen and, let me tell you, reading the news off a dumb teleprompter is NOT easy! But I fulfilled a dream no matter how much I embarrassed my children!
Later, we ate at Bubby's, a famous eatery in the rich, hip Tribeca area. It was a favorite spot of JFK, jr.

They have their own cookbook...

Apparently people order pies from around the world...

Hope you enjoyed our visit to the Big Apple!

It looks like so much fun! My in-laws visited NY recently. They loved it! I haven't been there yet. Maybe someday. Love the photos! :)

Hey Tara, what a fun place :D This teleprompter..is that the one where you read when reading the news? I guess it was fun participating, I know my kids will be very embarrased with me if I did that, but why not right? A few seconds of fame and a fulfilled dream sounds good :D One day, I'll pop over there, and everyone is talking about the prolonged winter...you should pop over here soon. Big hugs..missed you :D

Did you see MY son?

We'll be making that same trip in June and I can't wait!

It really IS the greatest city in the world.

Every summer, my house fills up with my girls' friends from other places -- other states, other countries -- who come to visit NYC. By now both my girls are skilled tour guides. Last summer we had a lovely Italian girl here for ten days, 3 guys all named Pierre from Paris, and a boy from Bosnia. It's great fun to live a bus or train ride away from NY!

Glad you enjoyed your visit. Cass

Hi Tara!

I love midtown and especially the Rockefeller Center area -- all the building's art deco designs are so photogenic.

I never heard of Bubby's -- will have to try it! Was the food good?

Hugs, Pat

I enjoyed your tour! I think it is so funny that you like to embarrass your kids too. Of course they forget how many times they probably embarrassed you when they were small. I call it getting even. LOL

Hi Tara!

I really enjoyed your post on the Rockerfellers Center! I will be visiting NYC for the first time in May and we're trying to decide what to see. The statue of Liberty is first on my list!

Have a great weekend!

Hi Tara!
Sorry I couldn’t visit you for the last weeks! I’m trying to catch-up and see the wonders you have around!

Manhattan is always a top destination; never tired of going there, and your pictures show why! Great job!

Meanwhile, one of the most beautiful Forts in India waits you and your comments at Blogtrotter: – The Amber Fort! Enjoy and have a great weekend!

New York, My Favorite Town...la, la, la. Remember Frank singing that song. Oh, your photos are wonderful, especially the ice skaters. I have never eaten at that restaurant. I used to go to a place in that area that was a Japanese restaurant that had amazing hot fudge sundays. Only in New York! Glad you had a wonderful time. Your son is probably in heaven there in NYC.

Hi Tara, My son lives just across the Hudson and until just a few weeks ago was moving into the city. Found an apartment he just loves in Hoboken and will stay there for now. I am itching for a trip to visit him soon. He's a great New York city guide and lots of fun. xo Lynn

What a lovely tour your have taken all of us on. I never knew you could "rent" Rockafeller Center Skating Rink for 15 minutes for such a memorable event. That's perfect!
