My Dream Kitchen

When I won Mary's giveaway at Little Red House, she sent me a Mary Engelbreit decorating book. One afternoon, I grabbed a cup of tea and, book in hand, snuggled onto one of the den couches, ready to peruse its pages. Then I happened upon this page and jumped up!

"Honey, here it is! The dream kitchen I have been describing to you!", I yelled to my husband. No answer. Where is that man?, I'm wondering. For months I had been trying to describe to my husband my kitchen vision and here it is right on this page! Is this not the most welcoming of places? I just love how white it is, sunny and bright, with the blue and white accents.

My description to my husband has been this-I want everything white, devoid of color. Glass cabinets, light counter tops...

Right now I have old gray Formica cabinets from the 1980s...they are functional but bland! And with my son in college, my dream is delayed for a few years, but I DO have the blue and white dishes!
Small plates and soup bowls that I received as a shower gift 22 years ago that we use for Chinese food nights...
New dishes that I bought from Smartbargains.com, the best website! All of my kitchen dishes were chipped and about 15 years old so this summer I indulged in these dishes which I love. Place settings for 12 cost me $143.00 total as these were on clearance (and no shipping charge!)
My Mom picked this gorgeous tray up for me at Home Goods. We have a 2 story Home Goods/Marshalls that opened near us recently!
I love the pink flower in the middle...So I am set, right? I do have the dishes, now I just need the moola for the rest of the kitchen. Ah, well, that's on hold...for now, I'll just take a gander at my dream kitchen in the book while I drink tea from my new blue and white bargain tea cup!
Ah, someday! :0)

I love white kitchens. I love white rooms, white decorations, white sofas. White dishes. I would so decorate everything in white if we didn't have 5 boys...

Tara,

That is my favorite decorating book; one I will never part with and that has always been my dream kitchen. I bet it would be Susie Q's dream too with all the blue and white. I remember seeing it in a magazine before the book and there is artwork hanging on the side of the island; such a fun place to put it.

Have a good one.

It is a lovely kitchen and would look perfect with your dishes. It looks like you done nice things with what you have to work with though. It looks like a kitchen I'd want to spend time in.

Hi Tara!!

Welcome back :)

I'm so happy to hear your dad is doing better. It sounds like he really enjoyed spending time with you. I think that is really what made him better :)

Your dream kitchen is beautiful! I hope it comes true soon.

Hi Tara -
I think you're all set to have that kitchen! It would be wonderful. I could be very happy in that kitchen, too.

Hi Tara,
Don't you just love that book? It has amazing layouts and yes, that kitchen is sooo gorgeous! Your new blue dishes would be perfect in it. Now if only we could figure out a way...Hee! Hee!
YES! I'm going to meet Pat and am so excited! I'm trying to plan in my head where to take her as there's so many things to do in San Diego. I'm just bummed that you can't be there with us, but if you ever make it out this way I'd be HORRIFIED if you didn't call. Disneyland is in my back yard ya know!
Have a fun day B.S.. That stands for "bloggy sister." Maybe to be safe I should just say BLS.

Hi Tara!

I think I'd love a white kitchen too. We renovated with oak in the late 80's and I'm tired of it.

Do you think you could paint your cabinets white? t might be a good way to get more of the type of kitchen you dream of. Your blue dishes are pretty!

A two story Home Goods?!! I'm so jealous! I love those stores.

I'll give Cori a hug from you when I see her!

Hugs, Pat

Glad to read news about your Dad. That has to feel good. The kitchen is great and worth waiting for. We lived in the old ranch with a wretched kitchen for about 7 years until we were sure what we wanted to do. Makes it all the sweeter now. I'll wish the same for you, but not the 7 year wait!

My eyes have seen the glory of what your husband can do and perhaps in the not too distant future - the kitchen of your dreams shall be yours. Then you may have to change your name to "Gone with the wind" - after all, your name is Tara.
I love your dreams! I am dreaming of a new kitchen too and white too! I have a penchant for blue and white dishes and collect them!
