Exercise Police

My goal, as you know, as of July 1st, is to be Physically and Fiscally responsible.

Here it is two weeks later and I can tell you I am one sore chickie. I dusted off some exercise tapes from the back of the TV armoire and I am trying to do them as regularly as possible. There has been snickering in the hallways of my house….

College son: Have you seen what Mom is up to in her bedroom?

Eldest daughter: Yeah, I think she’s trying to exercise or something.

College son: That won’t last long! (both chuckle)

Eldest daughter: I know, she was still lying on the floor when the instructor on the tape was up and bouncing around.

Geesh! Is there no working out privacy?? Or is it worse to be supervised by my 7 yr old daughter. She brought her webkins in so I’d have an audience. “Mom, the lady on the tape is lifting her arms higher than you…Mom, you are supposed to go down farther than that!” I threw her and her webkins right out!

Last night I thought I’d get away from the exercise police and take a bike ride. Hubby had filled my tires and I was thrilled to death as I took off! The wind in my hair, the smell of the flowers and river as I was buzzing by…more and more slowly. My thighs and calves were worse than the kids. “Are you kidding?”, they yelled as I rounded a corner. Hmmm, I thought, I’ll stop and take a look at the passing boats while my on-fire legs recover a little! “Thank you!", they cried, “Now get us back to the couch!”

Undaunted, I am going out again. Watch out, thighs. And, I am locking the bedroom door from the exercise police. Sign on door: No kids or webkins allowed!

Good for you! Keep up the work-outs, walking, the tapes, and soon they will all be cheering as you cross that finish line in a marathon! Have you thought of exercise connected to a cause.
For some it is a great motivator, look at Lance Armstrong. :)

Hilarious Tara - kids can be brutal! All the best in your new regimen - not easy to maintain exercise for me, so I hope you are way better at it than me!

Well at least you didn't round the corner on the bike then walk it the rest of the way...we're not saying who does that tho, right? Right? Good for you, ignore the brats...what do they know? Just remind them that they have your genes and are doomed, er bound to look the way you do one day...and that one day gets sooner everyday!

Tara, I find exercising with an audience to be difficult too. Those limber, strong, energetic kids just gotta be locked out! I didn't walk yesterday, but I worked in the garden for hours and wore my pedometer; 8511 steps. Now if it could tally up the bending and lifting too, I think I got a good workout. I know I'm sore in strange places!
Keep up the good work, Laura

Sounds like you are determined, and successfully keeping to your goal. I like the sound of that bike ride too. Karen

Good for you! Its not an easy habit to get into, but you'll be glad you did, when you get old like me!! I do pushups daily, and TRY to get to the gym on a regular basis. If not, I can't carry the grandbaby around like I want to.

LOL! Tara you read what happened to me when I exercised too hard at the gym! OUCH! Don't overdo it!

I posted today about an wonderful Italian Feast we went to in Brooklyn yesterday -- maybe your parents remember it? Lots of fun, but, oh, so crowded!

Hugs, Pat

oh Tara, this is so funny and sounded so much like me. I have to exercise desperately and whenever i tell my husband that, he'll have no reactions, afterall he has been listening to it for the past decade. But truly, I've been thinking about it for years and that's all I did..think, still am not getting this fat butt to move YET!! wait..one day, it will come. I promised to take the kids swimming with me, well, they went, and I ate club sandwiches hahaahah :)

Don't kids just love to steal your thunder? Your daughter was hilarious! I don't know what it is about kids, but they can say one thing and make me feel totally ridiculous. Oh just wait until they are my age! I will put words in their childrens' mouths to get even! lol

You gave me a good laugh today!! I share your reluctance (and your love of the potato chip!).

Stop by, if you have a chance...I'm hosting a "perfectly imperfect" week, and I'd love you to participate!!

Have a great week

Good for you!! Glad to hear you are taking up an exercise prgram.
I push my kids(They are a little smaller than yours) in the stroller every morning. They are no less critical. My little boy is constantly saying "Go faster Mommy.) We live in a hilly town so that is easier said than done. My motivational support system. Gotta love 'em.

I have always been a loner when it comes to exercising. The whole idea of an doing an exercise tape (and I have had many over the years)in front of spectators seems excruciating ... and you have pointed out exactly why. I can use the treadmill with people in the room so I guess I have made progress.

Let's face it ... any exercise is progress.

Hi Tara!
I like the exercise program the pink flamingo is on in your previous post!
I always feel like I have an audience when I exercise... Wes sits there for half of it and directs me or chuckles and the white poodle sits on a chair watching me and the 2 doxies are trying to jump up on me and/or crawl all over me! It's a real challenge!
