The Yard, continued...

The yard is a mess, piles of dirt and plants all over the place as my husband fulfills his vision of what he wants the yard to look like. We have been in this house 13 years and have left the yard for last (see post from MAY 30--not much to look at!!).

He keeps explaining his vision: a place for us to sit and enjoy. We thought of adding a screened in porch at some point but our son is in college and that is just not part of the financial plan. He assures me this is the next best thing...I do not know what is up his sleeve but so far he has planted large arborvitae around the patio. When I saw the size of them I was surprised but he said it'll be worth the expense of them in the end -- it will seem like our yard has always been "this way". And, he points out, doing this himself will save us considerably!

He had some stone delivered to set up a path in the flower bed...
He planted irises between the trees given to us by a neighbor...
This weekend he'll be at it again! I keep him happy with iced tea, lunch, and lots of applause. Hee-hee! I'm appreciative and I am loving watching the progress!

It looks like it will be a great place to enjoy some relaxation once he gets it all done. We love our relaxing spots at our place.

It looks like he's doing a great job so far:-). My hubs involvement
in the yard is saying to me,
"Honey, I think you planted that crooked". *LOL*.
Have an inspiring day!

Your husband sounds as wonderful as your mom and dad...what a blessed life you lead. By the way thank you, thank you, thank you Tara. I just set up the list of subscriptions on Google like you suggested. How great is that. Sometimes you can waste so much time waiting for a blog to load. So nice. Thanks Karen

OUr roles are reversed here. I love to do all the gardening ..... heavy lifting and the garden fluffing ..... I wish I could spend everyday out there playing.

My Dad is the gardener in my Family....It's nice to sit back and see what they come up with..."They" meaning "Guys") He always plants Gladioli in a little spot, much to my mother's horror, because he likes them. Looks like your landscaping is coming along fine!

I'm sure it will be womderful once it's all done, and will improve even more over time as the trees grow and flowers all fill in. Good to keep up the encouragement for such a big task for you sweet hubby.
:-)

PS: Tara, I never saw the Giant Mountain near Hamden, Conn, that looks like the rocks of the Giant's Causeway in Ireland. Now that I know about it I'll put it on my list of places to visit. The arrangements are so unusual that it would be interesting to see them again locally. Thanks!

wow! good job, tell him! yay you... happy for you Tara:) The irises are beautiful and yes it's good you got big trees. We've had ours for 4 years, to me it's still not tall enough, but it has grown.

I had to kind of laugh...
I read your blog about all the work your husband is doing and then looked over at your About Me in the side bar....the part about "trying to slow down". LOL

I'll bet you'll find reasons to slow down when your lovely yard is finished, though!
God bless

You're lucky he likes doing it! My husband doesn't like gardening but will do the boring stuff like mowing & hedge trimming. It's up to me & my daughter to prettify it!

I am glad we aren't the only ones leaving the yard until last!!! I loved your suggestion about watching the moss and thinking about what a wonder it is!!! That was great advice!
