Shell Seekers

When you have teenagers who love to sleep late, there is no joy like that of still having a seven year old around the house!

Early Sunday morning I stole into my little one’s room and tapped her on the shoulder, “Let’s go find some shells!”

Excited, we scurried around the house packing a quick breakfast and headed off to the beach. When we arrived everything was quiet and calm. Noone around, just two hungry shell seekers!

We set up camp. First, we’d eat. Then, a walk on the jetty over looking the canal…"I own all the sea!," she proclaimed.

"Watch your step, Mom," said the Great Adventurer! With bucket in hand, we stepped off the jetty to find precious shells for necklaces..."Mom, these are very ancient," I was told.
Rocks are great to collect, too... Now a walk through the dunes scouting for dune roses...And a glimpse at the boats beyond...we debated which one we'd live on!
Here we found baby crabs...
Then a stop at the playground and a few more shells to fill glass jars at home...

When we walked into the house the teenagers were just waking up. "Where were you two?", they mumbled when they spied our cache.

"Oh, just on an adventure," my little one winked.

Oh how precious is the innocence of that age. You should print this entry out and keep it so you can look back and remember the sweet magic of the day:>) Give that child a hug for me. I miss my "little" girls.

My 2 daughters will sleep in late every weekend, only my 7 year old son will be up early and go anywhere I want to go in the morning. Looking at this post makes me miss the beach a LOT.

Tara, what a smart girl you are for stealing away with your lovely daughter. You are so blessed to have the glorious age of seven about while having teens. Sounds like you had such a nice date. I grew up on Long Island and the beach was always a quick trip in the car. A walk on the beach in the morning is always so wonderful, especially with such good company. Karen

Oh how I miss the beach! I grew up until 6th grad in southern Calif. and we were at the beach daily combing for shells and sand dollars with my mom. Thanks for that stroll down memory lane!
Have a fabulous day.

Very jealous.

That you have the ocean that close and that you have a seven year old to share it with.

Ah, Tara, the last photo was so precious! That is really one that should be framed as it says so much about childhood innocence. Enjoy these moments, and press them in your heart for safe keeping.

This is just the most precious post! I love how your daughter said she owned all the sea and that the shell was very ancient. These are memories you will both cherish so very much.

Also love the scenery. How beautiful it is there and how lucky that you can travel to the beach!
