Google Reader

Have you tried Google Reader? This is the way to keep up with all your blogs!

I was spending a lot of time checking in with blogs, seeing if anyone added someting new. Well, Google Reader lets ME know when someone has put up a new posting! There is a tour you can take here that shows you how it works. There is also a super tutorial from Andy Wibbels here. He does a great job of explaining the simplicity of this super website! (And I need simple or I won't use it!)

Basically, you add the link to any blogs you keep up with...an example of my list is here...(the number next to the blog indicates how many people on Google Reader are signed up for that blog).

A Sofa In The Kitchen (5)

Each day, Google Reader posts from your links every blog that has had an addition. It also gives you a small tease as to what your fave blogs are writing about. Here is what my personalized up-to-date posting list looks like for this morning (Monday):

If I want to look at the blog, I just click on the title and it brings up the post for the day through Google Reader. At the end of each post, you can click the "NEXT" button to bring you to the next blog on your list. If you want to leave a comment, you can click in to the post's comment section.

In this way, I can check in with all of you in a relatively short period of time which leaves me more time to read what you have to say (and, after all, that IS the fun part!)

Whether I have an hour to surf around or just a few minutes before the bus pulls up in front of the house, Google Reader does all the work for me by filtering through my favorite blogs (which are all listed on my sidebar to the right plus a few more I have not put there yet!) and delivering them right to my "doorstep".

I had to share this with you, it is just too cool!

Hi Tara. Google Reader is fabulous..
It sure gives you more time to just read everyones blogs instead of going and finding they haven't posted anything.
It takes a while to set up if you have a lot you want to look at but is so worth it.
Have a great week
Alison

Hi Tara -
I discovered and started using Google Reader several weeks ago and I LOVE it! It does cut down on my blogging time. I love not having to search each blog on my list to see if there is something new. This is a great way to go.

Thanks Tara! I really need to use something like this as I seem to have less blog time now that summer is approaching. I feel bad that I haven't kept up as well as I use to.

I use the built in feed-er in IE and it works much the same way - I love being able to tell if someone has a new post up. Came over to check out yur blog after seeing the photo of baby birds on Kacey's site. Nice blog and I added you to my reader, so I can come back easily!

dear T

sorry to hear about the rain in the basement. Our storm came from France so it is clearly their fault (as are most of the truly irritating things in life apart from good food, wine, male fashion designers and attractive poodles). Thanks for the tip, although it makes us feel guilty for not blogging more often.

love Spot

Tara,

I started using it a couple of weeks ago and I find it helps with "Bloggers Guilt". Much more efficient use of my blogging time.

Wow, Tara this is wonderful information, as time goes on my list of favorite blogs gets longer, and this sounds like a wonderful solution. By the way what a compliment to see me on your list of blogs that you read. I must go and see about this. By the way Rhondi from Rose Colored Glasses is having a Front Porch party tomorrow. Thank you, Karen

Tara, actually the number besides the blog tells you how many articles there are in the blog unread by you. ONce you go to the blog and read it, you hit = all read, the number disappears. It builds up as posts builds up unread by you. Unless you know something different - that's how my google reader works. great article!!!
thanks for posting it.

Melissa @ The Inspired Room said...

I'm a google reader failure. I loved it at first, but when my blog hit 1000+ unread posts, I panicked and quit using it. Not because I wasn't keeping up, I WAS reading people's posts, but I guess I just added too many to keep up with each and every one! Especially those bloggers who post several times a day! Eeek, I failed with google reader!

Luckily I found Google Reader a few weeks after I started blogging. What a big help it's been. Glad you found it, too.
