Girl Scout Cookies???

My 7 year old is a Brownie. Her whole desire of going to first grade and a new school was to be a Girl Scout. She loves her meetings and all they do together.

As far as her family was concerned, we were happy she was a brownie because of Girl Scout Cookies. When she came home with the order packet we were thrilled! Everyone put in their order –who wanted thin mint (the favorite), shortbread (only hubby) and the best of all—the somoa, that delicious combo of chocolate and coconut. Our neighbors were happy to oblige her as well. Is there a more American cookie?

Delivery was last week. Happy faces on our street opened their doors eagerly awaiting the Girl Scout Cookie arrival! In our house, knowing my son was home from college and all three kids would gobble them up in a minute, I hide a box of thin mints in the back of the freezer. Certainly you know a frozen thin mint is sublime.

So there I am at work one day last week dreaming of the minute I get home and crack into my private stash of frozen thin mints. Driving home I am saying to myself, on another gray New York day, I am going to have a cup of Earl Gray and sit and enjoy!

I come into the house secretly happy and notice this empty box of somoas on the counter…open the cookie drawer and there’s not a Girl Scout cookie to be found. The bandits have been at it! Ah, but not to worry because I have my frozen stash in the freezer! Open the freezer and I see a box of frozen thin mints in the front. That’s ok, I think, I put a decoy in the front of the freezer so they wouldn’t get to the back…

I move the box of frozen thin mints to get to my secret stash in the back. Hmmm…it’s empty. I move the roasts and frozen steaks, stick my hand in the back of the freezer, and my secret stash is gone! The empty box decoy was for ME! Those pesky kids! Is there no sanctity when a mother is trying to hide cookies from her children????

(P>S> Sorry I haven't posted and you have not heard from me--someone hit a pole in town and we have not had electricity for 2 days!)

Rascals! Don't they know a moms secret stash is not to be touched!? Glad your power is back on, that can be so inconvenient!

Girl Scout cookies are a truly wonderful thing. How well I know the feeling, anticipating a moment alone savoring your secret stash. NOT! at least not while there are kiddies in the house. And if the kiddies are big, worser still.

Your post about your mom and dad's place was priceless. You are so tender.

Thanks for the lovely comment on my blog. I have always liked taking photos, but lately I'm really getting into it.

Ah Tara, you kids sound like my boys during their heydays, only mine did it with Christmas presents. So naughty, but such fun trying to outsmart them. Mary is right, wrap in tin foil!!

PS. I haven't had a frozen thin mint in years and now I want one.

Tara, I am sitting here smiling at you. I was a Girl Scout Leader when my Cindy was little. She so loved selling cookies. I too tried to hide my favorite - Samoas as well. Finally I took them to school and put them in my desk - all mine!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog! I am so glad that you did because now I have found yours and I feel like I've found another kindred spirit in "blog world"!! LOL!!

Now, my daughter is too young to steal cookies from the freezer. However, when I was growing up, my mom used to hide the Christmas Cookies in the freezer by wrapping them up and writing "Peas" on them!!

That is such sweet thing about your dear little girl and the cookies! Hope you've got you power back now! Wishing you all a very Happy Easter! ((BIG HUGS))

Oh, I sympathize with you. I remember raising my four boys and having every item of food disappear! I love thin mints! I remember being a girl scout ( I am now 54) and selling them for 50 cents a box! And we went house to house back then, because it seemed safe..

Have a wonderful Easter...
Hugs,
Penny

Loved your story, so I can relate! What about the peanut butter patties? Do they still have them? You must eat the peanut butter off first, and then the chocolate!

LOL...Thin Mints in the freezer are the best! We are mailing out your package tomorrow!

Have a blessed and wonderful day!

This was so funny, and we too are running out of hiding places. My husband even keeps cookies in the trunk of his car, and he brings them in when we sit to watch TV - HAAAAAAA!

Hi Tara,
I always hide my thin mints in the freezer too! Luckily my husband forgets about them until after they've been devoured. I think there are some in the freezer still.

Hi Tara,
Found you through Rachel's blog.

Gee, I thought this was mine and my daughter's secret about the freezer (the thin mints are the best!). Guess everyone has the same idea.

My daughter's no longer a girl scout, but we did plant many a tree as well as other do-gooder things as I tell her and we laugh about what fun we had! If you find a frozen thin mint, will you send me one? I think it's been at least 4 years since I had one....

Cute blog here!

I have to stay far...far away from the samoas <--(sp)
They are dangerous little cookies along with the thin mints which are just as bad in my book.

But then again, candy and anything with the word chocolate defeats me everytime. It does make me happy:)

That hash brown bake looks yummy by the way! And if you smell something rotten then you might be able to find what was lurking that was hidden weeks before. Good thing I only stick with plastic eggs as I know if I used real eggs then I would forget with this mama brain of mine.

Have a great day!
:) Renee

Oh Tara. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! Imagine -- even the freezer isn't safe!! Samoas?? They haven't arrived here in Canada yet. But we've progressed -- we do have the mints!
