Kitchen Couch

Last summer we bought outdoor furniture for our patio and in our purchasing exuberance never thought about where we’d store it all in the winter! This couch, we realized, fit into the house through the kitchen door but we could not get it into the basement with the other pieces.

What to do? We rearranged the kitchen table a bit and now have a kitchen couch! Oh, what a wonderful addition this has been to our family this winter!

My oldest daughter laid on it with a blanket watching me make chicken noodle soup for her when she was ill last week!

My 7 year old and I spent an afternoon basking in the streaming sunlight examining all the family photos on the shelf above. (“We’ll pretend we’re on an island and you have to swim off for snacks!”, she said).

My college son plops here, with feet up, waiting for friends to pick him up, and tells us what's going on in his life until he hears a car horn!

Me? I’ve taken glorious cat naps here, watching the stark winter sky and all the birds that fly off the river near our home.

When people walk in they say, “You have a couch in your kitchen?” Yes, it’s odd, I know, but I just smile, knowing it’ll be here next winter, too!

Hi, Tara, thanks for stopping by to visit. Love your wicker sofa & who cares if you don't normally see one in the kitchen area. Sounds like you enjoy it just the same & you can look forward to putting it back on the patio again come spring.

Hope you'll come back & visit often!

So glad you visited my blog. I love your stories, esp. the I Do sign, WANT your white couch and I think the couch in the kitchen is wonderful. I think that's what decorating is about. Putting things where they're least expected and learning how well they fit!

Hi Tara, I dont think it's odd at all! My best friends mom in college had a couch in her kitchen and we spent many hours there talking toher as she cooked. I think it is a wonderful idea in fact!

Oh how sweet...I think that couch didn't fit through the basement door "for a reason" - perfect right in that spot I think!

I love the idea of a kitchen couch. Wish I had room for one. You may have a hard time parting with it this summer when it's time to move it back out to the patio. I always wanted a fireplace in a kitchen with a rocking chair beside it. ~ Lynn

I would love to have a couch in my kitchen - if my kitchen was big enough for it. That's a great idea! You aren't going to want to move it back outside this summer. Hmmm, wonder if I could add on to my little kitchen?

Your blog is nice and I love your header picture. I'll be back again to visit.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for leaving your sweet comments. Please come back often.

Oh, I love YOUR blog, too! I know what you mean about suddenly table-scaping and seeing things differently because of the blogs you read (earlier post of yours) - I went to TJ Maxx yesterday and saw things in a whole new light! I'll be back to visit yours again!

There's even a food blog: www.asofainthekitchen.blogspot.com

See? Not so odd (and I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgets about winter when outfitting the deck for the summer!)

Found you through Sandra at Nora Lee - glad I stopped! We have a setee in our kitchen (if it were bigger, we'd have a couch, too) Not unusual at all, as far as I'm concerned. We love to be in the kitchen all together!

Have a great day!

Tara,

Thank you for stopping by my food blog and giving me the link to your blog as well. It was exquisite to read your post about having a sofa in the kitchen. It definitely put a big smile on my face. I don't think I will ever live without a sofa in my kitchen. It was kind of my mothers doing when I was in my teens, and kind of an accident at that. We moved into a house that had this enormous kitchen and as we filled it up with furniture there was this giant area that just needed to be filled. So, she pulled the loveseat into the kitchen and the rest is history. I think a sofa in the kitchen is a staple. People naturally gravitate towards spending time in the kitchen and having a sofa promotes this and relaxing.

And you really should try that milk and honey tea tea, it's quite amazing! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the lovely comments!
