Generations of Weddings

On our dining room wall I have three generations of wedding pictures hanging. My grandparents, my parents, my husband and me.

I never met my grandparents but I wonder if they ever thought there’d be a me and I’d proudly display their wedding pic on our wall.

Here’s my Mom and Dad. When I was a kid I used to wonder what it would have been like to be at their wedding. Just to be a fly on the wall to see what was going on. Did you ever wonder about that? Seeing your parents dance together? Their jubilant faces?

Last picture: my husband and myself. We share the same anniversary as my parents. When I woke up the morning of our wedding, my husband had hung a sign on my lamppost that said, “I Do”. Imagine my heart beating a million miles a minute when I saw this sign hanging outside my bedroom window!

For the longest time I could not find it anywhere in the house! Then one afternoon we were cleaning out the attic and there it was in my college trunk!

I was yelling to the kids to come and see it.

“That’s it?”,my son queried. “You’re kidding, right, Mom?”, said my eldest daughter, “You made it sound like it was beautiful, but geesh, it’s just a piece of wood!” Guess I romanticized it a bit.

“Let’s hang it up!”, said the seven year old.

And so it hangs in our stairwell, just a spray painted piece of wood that means the world to me, an invitation to begin our 22 years together!

(“Can’t believe you hung that thing!”, said my son—he’ll learn!)

What a great memory to hold onto for sure! My kids would be the same way, but someday they will get it I'm sure. I love the photos and a very nice display of generations. Thanks for the idea. I am so enjoying your blog!

So sweet. How I wish I would have taken more pictures when my kids were little. What a great memory to share with them when they are older :-)
